Vintage French Walnut Backgammon Game

This handsome full-size backgammon board is in good vintage condition. It is a fine example of an early 20th French walnut backgammon game - probably from the mid-1920s, a period known in France as 'the roaring twenties'. This game is a real collector's item.
The appeal, for the purists, is that it still has its original baize playing surface which is in good condition This game is totally authentic. Purchased at Estate Sale as an ‘objet d’art’ laid out on a coffee table - or as a rare playing board for the backgammon enthusiast.
This is a full-size (tournament) board measuring (Closed ) 17.5" wide x 14" tall x 4" deep and the joinery uses the beautiful 'dove tail' joints popular at the time. The outer surface of the box has a magnificent walnut wool board. The outer surface of the board shows some light scuffing consistent with the game's antiquity - but overall it is in good condition.
The playing pieces are 2” diameter and made from French boxwood - an extremely hard wood that was also used to make the early French 'boules' - and they have a deep patina from a hundred years of use. Theare no hand-sewn leather dice cups( misssing) . This set comes with one set of dice
