ASTRONAUTS SWING INTO MOON ORBIT IN PREPARATION FOR TODAY'S LANDING; CREWMEN EAGER
Sunday, July 20- The Apollo 11 astronauts were orbiting the moon early today and eagerly awaiting the mission's most critical and dramatic moment-the landing on a desolate lunar plain. Neil A. Armstrong, a civilian, and Col. Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. and Lieut. Col. Michael Collins of the Air Force rode their spacecraft into lunar orbit yesterday. Mr. Armstrong and Colonel Aldrin are scheduled to steer the landing craft to a lunar touchdown at 4:15 P.M. Eastern daylight time today. Mr. Armstrong, the 38-year- old commander, will open the hatch and plant the first human footprints on the moon at about 2:17 A.M. tomorrow or sooner, if he feels like it.
