Llamas del Mouro, located 22 km from the capital of the council, Cangas del Narcea, is a small Asturian town that has managed to cross international borders with its original black ceramics.

The black ceramics of Llamas del Mouro are molded in the hands of the family of Jesús Rodríguez Garrido, the person who ensured that this tradition was not lost. Currently, it is his children and grandchildren who keep it alive, also providing a touch of modernity to this type of craftsmanship.

The pottery tradition of this small Asturian town, which had its period of splendor in the 1930s, is a legacy of wisdom that has been transmitted from parents to children, in the same state in which they received it, enriching it with talent and freshness of each new generation. Llamas del Mouro is the only place in western Asturias where black ceramics continue to be made. Today, the descendants of Jesús Rodríguez Garrido, who died in 1992, are the only artisans in Llamas del Mouro who keep the Black Pottery tradition alive.

This unique Asturian ceramic is appreciated not only for the beauty of its exclusive carving and its particular color, but also for its extraordinary qualities of resistance and food preservation. The secret of its preparation consists of great thoroughness and skill in the good selection of materials; patience in each wait of the process and, above all, carry in the blood the craft of the Rodríguez family, who puts their entire soul into the work of each piece.
