This is an exquisite hand painted Chinese 'Mudman' pottery figurine; made from unglazed brown clay, it is hand painted with a soft semi-gloss finish to his hair, headdress, belt and shoes, and a shiny high gloss glaze to his robes and accessories.
The man, if it is Su Shi, is sitting on a large stone with a basket full of some sort of plant to his right and a farming tool resting on the boulder behind him. He has a book in his left hand. The right hand appears to have clasped something, possibly a quill or pen.
In lovely condition, showing minor aging and gentle wear with some rubbing.
